St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center (SVSF) offers services to the community through basic skill-building and academic enhancement for at-risk children and adults. These programs are designed to help build self-sufficiency skills for academic and employment success, personal achievement and dignity.
St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center’s Adult GED Program provides free individualized assistance to adults in preparation for the High School Equivalency/GED exam and for ABE students.
We are looking for tutors to help Adult students study for ABE (Adult Basic Education) and/or GED.
Our tutors cover a variety of subjects including, Math, Science, Reading/Language, and Social Studies. We work with your availability and area(s) of expertise to match you with the appropriate student(s).

Volunteers will be scheduled for an Orientation/Training either in person or virtually after completing the application process.
Tutoring opportunities are Monday through Friday, generally 9am-4pm, though there are a few evening options available and are in several different locations around Detroit.
GED students work out of a GED book, and tutors are provided with the same book and calculator to assist students.
Students are also enrolled in an online learning platform.
