Build a Stronger, More Effective Board

Camp Fire USA was founded in 1910 to offer girls encouragement and training to become confident, effective leaders. In 1975, membership was extended to include boys making Camp Fire USA an all-inclusive youth focused organization. The organization has remained steadfast in its commitment to its mission of helping youth of all backgrounds develop positive self-esteem, self-confidence and leadership skills while evolving with the changing needs of the community.

With their camp session coming up, they were in a hurry to find dedicated and committed board members to supplement their small staff. Though the Board Development Chair had attended a BoardConnect^® training, the board wanted additional recruiting assistance.

BoardConnect^® staff consulted with Camp Fire to identify board challenges, to identify and recruit additional board members with the goal of securing engaged and committed board members prior to Summer Camp 2007.

Camp Fire took advantage of BoardConnect^®'s Recruitment Support Services. BoardConnect^® was able to provide:

Help to complete a composition analysis to identify their board needs
An initial recommendation list of potential candidates on boardnetUSA
Staff follow-up on initial contacts made by Camp Fire to potential board members
Additional guidance when needed throughout the recruitment process

The result was a very satisfied customer. The Wathana Council of Camp Fire USA was able to:

Have access to a large candidate pool of potential board members
Add five new solid board members to their roster
Immediately have a strengthened and rejuvenated board

The new board members we have gained through NEW and BoardConnect have made a marked difference in our organization. Some of them immediately stepped into leadership roles and have helped us build the strongest board we've had in years. The board as a whole is more active than before and has assumed more responsibilities. This has allowed the executive director to do less and less board work and focus more on her primary duties as head of the organization.
